Moroccans clash with polisario at award ceremony in Washington
Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of the late Robert Kennedy and the founder of the RFK center for Justice & Human Rights introduced Aminatou Haidar and presented her with the Award. Ms Kerry Kennedy was very biased in her description of the situation in Morocco's Southern provinces and presented an Anti-morocco narrative to the audience. She described morocco as if it was the apartheid regime in South Africa or the Pol Pot Regime in Cambodia. Her introduction was vey biased against Morocco and she promised to help Aminatou Haidar in the future to fullfil her cause
This was followed by Senator Patrick Leah, Democrat of Vermont who declared "It is important to recognize and commend the Government of Morocco for its recent efforts to protect human rights. Morocco has become a party to most of the major human rights treaties. It is also a valued friend and ally of the United States. It is now time for Morocco to fulfill its treaty obligations to uphold the civil and political rights of the Sahrawi people"
RFK award To Aminatou Haidar
Moroccan community in the USA expressed its displeasure and deception over the decision of Robert F. Kennedy Foundation to grant, here Thursday, the 2008 human rights award to Sahraoui militant, Aminatou Haidar.
"Moroccan-American community is displeased over this selection and holds it to be a highly ideological decision and a politically motivated act that undermines the idea of promoting human rights," a press release of the Washington Mororoccan American Club published on the website MoroccoBoard.com said.
WMC underlined that "several observers view the selection of Ms. Haidar and the hosting of the ceremony at the US Senate by a senior US Senator send the wrong signal to the people of Morocco and especially those in its southern provinces, and constitutes a break with the tradition of constructive neutrality maintained by the US government in the ongoing conflict between the kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario separatists."
“Ms. Haidar rejects the autonomy plan presented by Morocco and acclaimed by 173 Members of Congress and other governments as the only viable solution to this political quagmire,” recalled the MAC, a network of Moroccan associations in the USA.
WMC also recalled that Ms. Haidar, who enjoys the freedom of travel in and out of morocco, has recently accepted a large amount of money from the Moroccan government as restitution and compensation but she still has not renounced violence and continues to incite violent acts.
WMC also shed light on the serious violations of human rights committed by the Polisario against the Sahrawis living in Tindouf camps, and its attempts to slow or stall the UN-brokered peace talks and routinely threatens a return to war and to the use of force whenever a UN resolution displeases it.

On the footsteps of Zemmouri by Driss El Yazami, CCME- WMC 20/20
The celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Washington Moroccan American Club is an event in more ways than one. It owes its richness to the program prepared for the population of the U.S. capital, which reflects primarily the profound changes experienced by Morocco. On all fronts (gender, ethno-cultural pluralism, rule of law, etc...) Morocco has opted for the path of modernity and reform. The road is still long, but both Moroccan society and Moroccan government are forging their own history.
