We have no Jews in Morocco! Only Moroccan citizens".
The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation has resolved to pay tribute to the Kingdom of Morocco and to the Moroccan people

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation is a global-reach NGO, with offices in New York, Berlin, Jerusalem, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Among its members are more than a hundred heads of state and Nobel Prize laureates, as well as distinguished personalities from all faiths.
Due to its interfaith nature, the Foundation is strongly supported by both the Catholic and Protestant Churches. In Berlin, it operates from the Vaterunser Evangelical Church. In Buenos Aires, Argentina, following an initiative of the Wallenberg Foundation, the Catholic Cathedral features a mural in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
The Awards Committee of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation (IRWF) has resolved to bestow the "Raoul Wallenberg Humanitarian Award to the Kingdom of Morocco".

This distinction will represent a token of appreciation to the Muslims from different countries who helped save the lives of Jews during the Second World War, and particularly to the Moroccan Royal Family and to the Mo roccan people for the blessed role that Morocco has traditionally played in favor of the dialogue and mutual respect between all creeds, religions and nations.
In a letter addressed to the IRWF, His Majesty, King Mohamed VI, expressed his being "deeply rewarded and honoured in this context to receive i n Morocco the special medal you have conceived for this occasion".
This tradition was highlighted by Sultan Mohamed V (later known as King Mohamed V), who during the Vichy regime, expressed his unconditional support towards his Jewish subjects. According to verbal historical accounts, when a Nazi commander demanded to get a list of the Moroccan Jews, Sultan Mohamed V is believed to have retorted with the following phrase:
"We have no Jews in Morocco! Only Moroccan ci tizens".
This is only one example of many which underscore the spirit of civic solidarity of the Moroccan monarchs and their subjects.
This same spirit of civic courage and solidarity was displayed by Muslims from other countries, such as Tunisia, Albania and Turkey, who made a difference and proved to the world that the values of solidarity know no religious boundaries.
The main mission of the Foundation is to research and divulge the feats of the rescuers of victims of the Holocaust, focusing on educational programs which underscore their legacies to the younger generations. This research encompasses stories of rescuers from all faiths, religions and nationalities.
Through this humble recognition, people from all creeds: Christian, Jews, Muslims; believers and agnostics will express their gratitued to one of the most outstanding royal families of the world, leaders of a country - Morocco - which has never stopped to protect its citizens during the Holocaust.
In preparation to this event, the IRWF is calling upon historians and people from all venues to provide our Research Department with historical evidences regarding the Moroccan tradition of mutually respected coexistence and to endorse this hommage by writing to irwf@irwf.org.
Raoul Wallenberg

Wallenberg was born in Kappsta, Lidingö (near Stockholm) where his maternal grandparents, professor Per Johan Wising and his wife Sophie Wising, had built a summer house in 1882. His paternal grandfather, Gustaf Wallenberg, was a diplomat, and envoy to Tokyo, Constantinople, and Sofia.
His parents, who married in 1911, were Raoul Oscar Wallenberg (1888–1912), a Swedish naval officer who died of cancer three months before his son was born, and Maria "Maj" Sofia Wising (1891–1979). In 1918, his mother married Fredrik von Dardel (d. 1979); they had a son, Guy von Dardel and a daughter, Nina Lagergren.
In 1931, Wallenberg went to study architecture at the University of Michigan in the United States. In college, he learned to speak English, German and French.[7] He used his vacations to explore America. Despite the wealth of the Wallenberg family, he worked at odd jobs in his free time, including at a World's Fair.
On his return to Sweden he was unable to find a job as an architect. Eventually, his grandfather arranged a job for him in Cape Town, South Africa, in the office of a Swedish company that sold construction material.Between 1935 and 1936, he was employed in a minor position at a branch office of the Holland Bank in Haifa. He returned to Sweden in 1936 and obtained a job in Stockholm with the help of his uncle and godfather, Jacob Wallenberg, at the Central European Trading Company, an export-import company trading between Stockholm and central Europe, owned by a Hungarian Jew, Kálmán Lauer.
Raoul Wallenberg (August 4, 1912 – July 17, 1947?)was a Swedish humanitarian who worked in Budapest, Hungary, during World War II to rescue Jews from the Holocaust. Between July and December 1944, he issued protective passports and housed Jews, saving tens of thousands of Jewish livesHis death has long been a source of dispute with the former Soviet Union denying knowledge of Wallenberg's fate. On January 17, 1945, he was arrested in Budapest by the Soviets after they wrested control of the city from the Germans, and was reported to have died in March. In 1957, the Soviets claimed that Wallenberg had actually died of a heart attack in 1947 at the age of 35. There had been reports, however, from prisoners in the same facility, that he was seen alive long past 1947. In 1991, Vyacheslav Nikonov was assigned by the Russian government to find out the truth; he concluded that Wallenberg did indeed die in 1947, executed while a prisoner at Lubyanka.Wallenberg has been honored numerous times. He is an honorary citizen of the United States, Israel, Canada, and Hungary; Yad Vashem designated him one of the Righteous Among the Nations; monuments have been dedicated to him; and streets named after him throughout the world. A Raoul Wallenberg Committee of the United States was created in 1981 to "perpetuate the humanitarian ideals and the nonviolent courage of Raoul Wallenberg" and gives out the Raoul Wallenberg Award to that end.

On the footsteps of Zemmouri by Driss El Yazami, CCME- WMC 20/20
The celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Washington Moroccan American Club is an event in more ways than one. It owes its richness to the program prepared for the population of the U.S. capital, which reflects primarily the profound changes experienced by Morocco. On all fronts (gender, ethno-cultural pluralism, rule of law, etc...) Morocco has opted for the path of modernity and reform. The road is still long, but both Moroccan society and Moroccan government are forging their own history.

What a magnificent initiative by the Wallenberg Foundation. It is high-time to distinguish the great tradition of the Moroccan Royal House and its People. I have read a bit about the blessed activities of this NGO which not only divulges the legacy of Raoul Wallenberg, but also actively researches the feats of thousands of other saviors, from all walks of life!
